 OUR HISTORY Milnthorpe Primary School opened in 1950 and was the first school to be built in Westmorland after the Second World War. From the beginning, it has educated children of Nursery and Primary age; it has no affiliation to any particular religious denomination. Nursery  The Nursery is a separate building and accommodates 65 Nursery children. There is bright, spacious indoor accommodation that is utilised fully to support the six areas of learning of the Foundation Stage Curriculum. The newly created ‘Outdoor Classroom’ along with the rest of the outdoor environment complements the indoor accommodation and ensures a wonderful environment for young children to have their first experience of formal education. Reception to Year 6 The children from Reception to Year 6 are taught in classrooms in the main building. This currently accommodates 102 children and consists of a number of classrooms with adjacent practical areas. Reception are taught as a separate class and have continuous access to the outdoor area. Additionally, there are many quiet spaces for learning support activities with individuals and small groups. The children benefit from a spacious hall and an extensive outdoor environment, as well as regular use of the ICT suite.
